Apleona, a leading European integrated facility management company based in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt am Main, signed an agreement to acquire Siemens Gebäudemanagement & -Services GmbH (SGS) today. Based in Vienna, with sites throughout Austria, SGS was founded in 1998. With a total of around 260 workforce, the company generates sales of around EUR 75 million in the year.

SGS, as a subsidiary of the Siemens Austria, can call on a great deal of technical expertise and so puts its focus on technical facility management. In addition to Siemens, its customers include renowned logistics, real estate and industrial companies as well as public sector institutions. For years now, Apleona has been one of the established providers of hard services on the Austrian market, where its customers include industrials such as IBM as well as banks and various trading companies. Siemens and the Apleona Group have maintained a very close and good relationship for many years now.

Together, SGS and Apleona are set to grow and become one of the leaders for technical facility management in Austria. Apleona CEO Dr. Jochen Keysberg expects the acquisition to result in faster organic growth in Austria, both with local customers and with large international customers whose properties and real estate portfolios Apleona manages across borders through the EMEA (Europe, Middle-East, Africa) region and helps with partnership-based contract models, innovative products and digital solutions in the development and implementation of ESG, workplace and portfolio optimization strategies.

Apleona CEO Dr. Jochen Keysberg: “SGS will strengthen our market position in Austria. Its focus on technical services means it will be a perfect fit with our core business and be the ideal addition to Apleona’s business model, which has deep roots in the DACH region. We will now be even better able to serve those customers in Austria who require integrated FM services from a single provider and, in particular, technical services provided in-house.”

Gerd Pollhammer, Head of Siemens Smart Infrastructure at Siemens AG Austria: “In Apleona we are very pleased to have found a new ideal owner for SGS. We are convinced that the combination of Apleona and SGS will result in added value for employees and customers alike. This will be reflected not only in an improved service offering, leading market quality, but also in broader regional coverage. At the same time, with the transactions, Siemens sharpens its portfolio as a focused technology company in Austria.”

As is usual, the transaction requires approval from the antitrust authorities. Subject to that being given, it is expected to be completed during the second or third quarters of 2022. The parties have agreed not to disclose the financial details.
