Apleona Equips new 3M Production Building with Building and Energy Technology

The diversified company 3M has commissioned Apleona Wolfferts Gebäudetechnik as the technical general contractor for the technical building equipment of a new production building in Hilden, Germany. This involves both the planning and implementation of the heating, sanitary, refrigeration, and ventilation systems as well as instrumentation and control technology. At this new production site, 3M intends to manufacture films as supplier components across a total area of approximately 2750 m².

3M has commissioned Apleona Wolfferts several times before to produce sophisticated building technology equipment. The project in Hilden, Germany is scheduled for completion at the end of 2020. In order to adhere to the ambitious timetable despite the coronavirus pandemic, Apleona Wolfferts has doubled both the project management and construction management team.

To meet the high demands on supply reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of the future 3M film production facility, Apleona Wolfferts is installing particularly energy-efficient refrigerators for interior air and production refrigeration with an integrated free-cooling system. Due to higher sound-proofing requirements, the refrigerators are clad with high-performance sound-proofing modules to keep the noise level in the new production facility to a minimum. The two refrigerators have a cooling capacity of 810 and 993 KW and are hydraulically redundant. However, the cold water circuits can be connected to each other if required thanks to a hydraulic transition circuit to ensure high production cooling reliability.

The client 3M, the Arcadis project management team, co-general contractor Mainka, and Wolfferts as the technical building services general contractor are working closely together to facilitate the ambitious schedule and seamless processing for the construction of the new production facility.
