Apleona Equips New Production Facility of Pump Manufacturer Wilo with Building and Energy Technology

Apleona Wolfferts Gebäudetechnik has been commissioned with the planning and installation of refrigeration, heating, and sanitary systems in a new 55,000 m2 production facility of Wilo SE at the company`s headquarters in Dortmund. Wilo group is one of the world's leading premium suppliers of pumps and pump systems for building technology, water management, and industry. The company is supported by around 7,700 employees in over 60 subsidiaries worldwide; around 1,800 of these employees are in Dortmund. The Wilo Smart Factory, as the new cutting-edge production hall is called, is currently being built together with three administration buildings on the site of the company headquarters on Nortkirchenstraße in Dortmund. Apleona started the installation of the building technology in the production hall in June this year and is likely to finish work in summer 2019. The companies have agreed not to disclose the value of the contract.

The concept of the Wilo Smart Factory focuses on optimized and digitalized production and logistics processes, which are intended to make manufacturing and communication with suppliers and customers more flexible and more efficient. The specialists at Apleona Wolfferts Gebäudetechnik are installing the complete supply and disposal technology and a heat/power/refrigeration system in the large manufacturing complex, which is divided into three bays.

Two technical centers in the hall are at the heart of the energy and media supply. A cogeneration unit is being installed there, which will take care of converting the fuel applied for generating thermal energy into electrical energy. Any waste heat that occurs will be used to produce hot water to heat the hall. To cool the building, the waste heat energy will be converted into cooling energy using an absorption chiller. One of the two technical centers is transparent so that the technical systems can be presented to visitors to the Wilo Smart Factory during operation.
