Apleona commissioned with drywall construction for new hospital building in Karlsruhe

On behalf of ViDia Christliche Kliniken Karlsruhe, Apleona R&M Ausbau is carrying out the drywall construction work on the new hospital building for the St. Vincentius hospitals in Karlsruhe. The work comprises fitting ceilings and walls in the nine-storey building complex. In total, almost 35,000 square metres of plasterboard walls and around 28,000 square metres of suspended ceilings in a wide variety of construction types will be produced in order to meet the hospital’s specific requirements with regard to radiation protection, load-bearing capacity and fire safety. The installation of a large illuminated ceiling in the hospital building’s two-storey atrium will be particularly complex. To this end, a plasterboard-clad steel ceiling structure fitted with large-scale LED light membranes will be constructed in the foyer and entrance area. Apleona started the drywall construction work in November and expects to complete it by the end of 2018. The parties have agreed to not disclose the contract volume.

The new hospital building is being constructed on a site on Steinhäuserstrasse in the Südweststadt district of Karlsruhe. On completion, it will have more than 27,000 square metres of usable floor space spread over around 1,000 rooms, including 13 operating theatres and 192 patient rooms with 341 beds. After a little over three years of construction, the hospital complex should be ready to move into at the end of 2019.
